"When the moon hits your eye, and you hear a loud cry, that's a parrot." The song goes something like that, we're pretty sure. At least this is the only version of the lyrics we can think of, while all we can listen to for the last hour is our office parrots' daily opera group practice.

Raising parrots is one of the most joyous things a pet owner can experience. But if you're already a parrot parent, you know that this unfiltered joy comes as a package with the sheer loudness that's coming out of these creatures' beaks. It's absolutely mind-boggling to try to understand how this cute, colorful, and small bird can produce a noise level equivalent to a car workshop in the middle of the day. How do they do it? We don't know. We still love them to bits, though.

We have three parrots in the Animal Comedy HQ, flying freely from one computer screen to a lamp… or wherever else they'll manage to find themselves in. The king of the castle is Bigby, the magnificent macaw that loves to sit on everyone's shoulders, making us feel like pirates - even during important meetings. Then we have Polla, she's the parakeet lead singer of the group, tweeting her playlist from memory all day long. And then we have Richard, who's so lazy he loves the floor more than anything (a little like this rare ground-dwelling parrot from Australia).

All three create a cacophony (or symphony, if you will) that we live with every day. But, you know what? We love every second of it. Call parrot parents crazy, but we don't mind. We're just as bonkers as our birds, apparently.

Now, the Dracula parrot is the emo aesthetic we all wished to achieve circa 2008. It's officially known as Pesquet's parrot, and for a parrot, he's quite the large boi. This dark and striking bird is native only to the hill and montane rainforests of New Guinea - as rare as meeting a quiet parrot at all. The Dracula parrot earned its spooky nickname due to its "gothic" appearance: jet-black and charcoal-grey plumage contrasted with a bright crimson belly and wing panels that resemble a vampire’s cape when in flight. A true dream bird for any vampire fan and former emo kid.
